An election judge in Minnesota is facing charges for allegedly allowing voters who weren’t legally registered to cast ballots in the 2024 election.
According to a Fox 9 report, Timothy Michael Scouton, the head election judge for the Badoura Township Precinct in Hubbard County, Minnesota.
Is facing one count of accepting an unregistered voter’s vote and one count of election official neglect of duty, both of which are felonies.
According to the police, an election auditor informed them that 11 voters had not filled out the required registration papers.
But they were nevertheless permitted to cast their ballots even though they were unable to complete the forms that verify their identities.
According to the article, Scouton apparently finished his election judge and head election judge training in July, yet those votes were nonetheless permitted.
On the day of the election, authorities met with another judge who collaborated with Scouton. The judge told police that Scouton told her not to use the correct registration papers.
Another judge who collaborated with Scouton told police that she was advised to have voters sign the back of a book by Scouton since she did not know the correct procedures.
According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, Scouton “declined to provide a statement” before being taken into custody on the allegations.
As for the accusations against Scouton, the Minnesota Secretary of State said they were “very serious.”
The Secretary of State’s office told Fox 9 that “these allegations are extremely serious and must be fully and thoroughly investigated.”
It is illegal and a breach of the public trust for election judges to intentionally fail to conduct elections in compliance with the law, as they take an oath to do so.
Elections in Minnesota depend on the commitment and public service of 30,000 individuals, who must carry out their duties in a fair, unbiased, and law-abiding manner.
In order to allow local authorities to conduct an investigation, the Hubbard County Auditor promptly and appropriately notified them of the discovered irregularities.
