Alone, balding, and impoverished. For months, a “werewolf” had been waiting by the side of the road. His tail was broken and pointed, and his scales were hard.
What little black fur he had left was unkempt and had grown up on its own around the nape of his neck.
The dog was clearly in poor condition and unable to move about much; he seemed to have gone weeks without eating. Nobody knew anything more about the enigmatic creature,
Except from the fact that he had been seen in an orchard near Madera Ranchos, California, for a while. No one dared approach the animal because of its frightening look.
Since no one was able to identify the unfortunate dog, he was given the nickname “Werewolf.” They lacked the courage to investigate on their own.
Then, toward the end of the month, a driver saw him and wrote a brief comment about him on Facebook.
Until help came, the woman remained with the dog. Another animal hero, Megan Bowe, showed up shortly after. Megan Bowe, the creator of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescued Pup, tells The Dodo,
“I was on the verge of tears when I saw how bad off he was.” In actuality, he was near death. He was so dejected that he was hardly able to stand.
In reality, the “werewolf” Megan had come across was a German shepherd mix that was in really bad condition. This is why she chose to call him “King.” After that,
She hurried him to the closest emergency animal hospital after loading him into her vehicle. King followed Megan without hesitation and seemed glad to have help.
King was found to have several wounds and ailments by the veterinarian. But the worst of his injuries were a broken tail, a damaged pelvis, and scabies.
King seemed sophisticated, yet he was only a year old. Megan Bowe adds, “My veterinarian believes he was struck by a car,
Which would account for the fact that his tail was so messed up.” “That injury occurred months ago since it had already begun to heal improperly by the time I received him.
He was very thin and dehydrated since he couldn’t walk very far on his own to get food because of his severely broken pelvis.
To keep King’s contagious illnesses from infecting the other animals under her care, Megan kept him segregated in the garage.
In order to properly restore King’s strength and weight, she started him on a low-calorie diet and gradually increased it.
King needed all the support he could receive before undergoing surgery on his tail and pelvis. Despite his injuries and physical incapacity,
It was clear that he was grateful. Megan explains, “He’s a very affectionate dog.” As Megan sits down, King puts his head on her as if to give her a hug.
Megan remarks, “He has been so at ease and relaxed through everything.” After receiving therapy for around a month, King’s health improved.
He felt like himself again once they were able to heal his mange. A few weeks ago, when he was well enough to have the surgery, his pelvis and tail were fixed.
Furthermore, every treatment proceeded without a hitch. For King’s wounded limb to heal, the veterinarian suggested taking it for frequent walks. Before the end of the month,
King will visit his doctor again to have his stitches taken out and to assess his recovery. After he recovers from the first two surgeries, he could need surgery on his second hip.
In the last several months, King has made significant progress, and his efforts have given the impression that things are much better than they were.
However, King is quite different from the dreaded “werewolf” of the past. Megan said King will return to normal in a few months. He will thereafter be available for adoption.
King is taking full advantage of his new life, which includes walks, doggie ice cream, and window-down car rides, while he waits.
She finds it incomprehensible that someone would abandon him, frail and malnourished, at the side of the road.
