Seoul, the capital of South Korea, had a record 17.2 centimeters of snowfall on Wednesday, the first of the season.
The meteorological agency predicted further severe weather, which caused traffic jams and the cancellation of several flights.
Authorities had to rush to clean roads and pavements after the unusually heavy snowfall in November took many locals and commuters off guard.
At least 67 foreign flights from Seoul’s Incheon airport were among the almost 150 aircraft that were canceled, while other regions experienced blackouts.
According to the Seoul meteorological agency, Wednesday’s snowfall was the most in November for a single day in 117 years. On Thursday, further snow and rain are expected.
