In one of the most unlikely bouts in the history of the sport, social media sensation Jake Paul upset famous boxer.
Mike Tyson by majority decision late Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. With scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73, all three judges decided in Paul’s favor.
With the victory, Tyson drops to 50-7 while Paul’s professional record rises to 11-1. Paul said after the bout, “He’s exactly what I thought, one of the greatest to ever do it,”.
Someone asked Tyson whether he was finished boxing. “I’m not sure,” he said. Tyson remarked, “I don’t think so,” during the broadcast. “Maybe the brother (Logan Paul).”
Paul, a 27-year-old social media celebrity with about 21 million YouTube subscribers and over 27 million Instagram followers, dominated the fight. Tyson’s age caught up with him after an aggressive opening round.
For the most of the bout, Tyson seemed sluggish and seldom delivered any powerful blows. From the middle of the round on, his offensive performance significantly decreased.
Throughout the fight, the much younger Paul took minimal damage while barraged his opponent with hooks and punches.
After the bout, Paul was asked what he wanted to do next. “Whoever I want,” Paul said. “The next person on the list is everyone.”
In 2020, Paul made his professional debut. Among his victories are former UFC fighters Mike Perry, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Anderson Silva.
Last year, he lost a split decision to heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s half-brother, boxer Tommy Fury. Tyson, 58, is regarded as one of the greatest and most formidable fighters in history.
Twelve of his 19 consecutive finishes in the first round marked the start of his professional career. Later, at the age of 20, he defeated Trevor Berbick to become
The world’s youngest heavyweight champion. During his 37-0 start, Tyson won and held the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles, dominating the division from 1987 until 1990.
In 1990, he suffered his first professional loss when he was knocked out by Buster Douglas in the tenth round,
Which is regarded as the biggest upset in boxing history. Since that loss, Tyson has made 20 appearances in the ring, going 13-5 with two “no contests.”
Since losing to Kevin McBride in 2005, he has not participated in competitions. In 2011, he was admitted to the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Katie Taylor beat Amanda Serrano by unanimous decision (95-94 on all three judges’ scores) in the co-main event.
A repeat of their historic first encounter, the fight was another instant classic, with 324 punches landed.
Despite the card’s fantastic battles, internet fans bemoaned the stream’s persistent buffering problems.
