‘She filled everyone’s heart with joy,’ says Jim Carrey’s husband, after his sister Rita Carrey passed away.

Rita, Jim Carrey’s elder sister, has away, according to PEOPLE. “It is with heavy heart and my deepest sadness, surrounded by her family and friends.

Rita passed away peacefully and quietly on November 14 2024,” Rita’s husband Alex said in a statement on her Facebook page on Friday, November 15.

The pair, he said, “have been together for 16 years” and “just got married last year in July in an outdoor wedding that she has always wanted.”

We met a lot of folks we consider friends while traveling the globe. “My lovely wife, my lover, and my best friend was Rita,” he said.

“Rita always wanted to serve everyone, even complete strangers, since she had a compassionate spirit.

Rita planned a fundraiser to support a local charity because, as everyone knows, Christmas was her favorite holiday—in fact, it was her favorite day of the year.

Rita, one of Jim’s three siblings, along with the actor’s elder brother John Carrey and older sister Patricia Carrey.

Had a career in music and other media, including as a producer and co-host of The Peet & Reet program and a radio program, according to her Facebook page.

Born to Kathleen and Percy Carrey, Rita grew up in their home country of Canada, close to Toronto, together with her siblings.

“Family and Friends are invited to attend a candlelight vigil in Rita’s memory on December 7 2024 on Heathcote Terrace in St. Catharines,” Alex said in his post on Rita’s passing.

“Following the vigil everyone is encouraged to attend the Christmas on the Terrace public event in support of Gillian’s place,” he said.

“Gillian’s place can receive donations in Rita’s honor either in person or at the event.” It is advised to bring non-perishable food, children’s clothes, toiletries, or unopened gifts for kids.

In closing, he praised his “wonderful and crazy journey with Rita” throughout the course of their more than ten and a half years together.

“She filled everyone’s heart with joy with every step she took and I will never forget this beautiful and amazingly talented woman,” commented Alex. “Goodbye, my dear. Farewell, my buddy.

“Until our next encounter. “You had the time of your life,” he continued. “Your bestest friend and husband, Alex .”
