Vladimir Shklyarov, a well-known Russian ballet performer, died on Saturday in St. Petersburg, Russia, when he fell from a building’s fifth-floor balcony.
Vladimir Shklyarov was the top dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre, which acknowledged the 39-year-old’s death and described it as a great loss for the whole organization.
Authorities have opened an inquiry into Shklyarov’s death in St. Petersburg, according to Russian official media agency RIA Novosti.
However, the preliminary finding states that the fall was an accident. Two days before to his planned difficult spinal surgery, Shklyarov passed away tragically.
According to Russian media and the Mariinsky Theatre, he had been using “serious painkillers” for some time.
According to The Guardian, Russian dancer Irina Baranovskaya said that Shklyarov “went out onto the balcony to get some air and smoke” and stumbled across a little balcony.
As condolences came in, Diana Vishneva, a fellow major dancer at the Mariinsky, described Shklyarov as the favorite partner of many ballerinas and called his death a tragedy in an emotional Instagram tribute.
Unmatched in skill, Shklyarov excelled in classic productions like as “Swan Lake,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Don Quixote.”
He graduated from the renowned Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. In 2020, he was named an Honored Artist of Russia for his genius.
Since Russia’s invasion of its neighbor in 2022, Shklyarov has been an outspoken supporter of settling the conflict with Ukraine.
Maria Shirinkina, a fellow Mariinsky dancer, and Shklyarov were married and had two kids together.
