A sad video of a 2-year-old migrant girl clutching to a piece of paper with her name and phone number scrawled on it after being discovered alone at the U.S.-Mexico border went viral on Sunday.
The El Salvadorian boy was among more than 200 migrants, including 60 unaccompanied children, who were being held in Maverick County, Texas.
The youngster, wearing a bright pink jacket, was seen speaking to cops in video provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The little child was seen in the video responding to inquiries about her travels. The youngster only replied, “With my mom and dad,” when asked where she was going.
She said, “United States,” in response to the question of where her parents were. The little child is also seen in the video carrying a small piece of yellow paper that officials have verified has a name and phone number on it.
The child’s circumstances highlight the dangerous trek that many young people are making on their own as they enter the United States from Mexico.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Texas Department of Public Safety Lt. Chris Olivarez said, “This is a stark example of the precarious journey these children make from.
Their home country and how criminal organizations traffic these children across the southern border and further into the interior.”
“It is unacceptable for any child to be exposed to dangerous criminal trafficking networks, regardless of political views.”
The disturbing footage of the child’s circumstances coincides with larger worries about the growing number of unaccompanied immigrant youngsters entering the United States.
More than 529,000 migrant children have entered the United States during the Biden administration, according to the most recent figures from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The Biden administration has lost track of more than 320,000 migrant children who crossed the border alone, according to a study published in August, which further exacerbates worries about their safety and wellbeing.
Separate films showed law enforcement officers standing in rows and filming scores of minor migrants as they recited their ages and the countries they had visited.
The difficulties law enforcement is facing in controlling the flood of unaccompanied youngsters are further highlighted by this public demonstration.
Tom Homan, the former immigration enforcer for former President Donald Trump, has pledged to take a more active approach to addressing illegal crossings in response to the current crisis at the southern border.
Homan is anticipated to accompany Texas Governor Greg Abbott in examining the border later this week.
Homan was the interim director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Trump’s first term.
Homan also disclosed intentions to aid in the expulsion of illegal aliens by using the U.S. military for “non-enforcement” tasks.
These actions are taken when the U.S. immigration system is still under strain from the border issue.
The unsettling pictures of kids like the 2-year-old migrant girl serve as a clear reminder of the dangers of unauthorized crossings and the mounting worries about unaccompanied youngsters’ safety.
The protection of these vulnerable youngsters continues to be a top priority for both state and federal officials while the immigration policy debate rages on.
