When a healthy infant daughter’s brain gets harmed due to someone kissing her on the lips, the mother offers a warning.

In an interview on the Special Books by Special Kids YouTube Channel, eight-year-old Breelyn’s mother gave the following advice to the public: “When parents say ‘don’t kiss, this is why.”

Breelyn’s mother spoke about her daughter, revealing that she was born in great condition. “She was fine,” said the mother. “And [at] two days old, somebody was so excited to see her they kissed her on the mouth.”

After a few days, Breelyn, who was just over a week old, started to sleep a lot throughout the day. When her mother had to wake her daughter for feedings, she knew something was wrong. The mother then disclosed that Breelyn began having seizures two weeks after the kiss.

The mother explained that the person who had a cold sore at the time ended up giving the baby HSV encephalitis.

Which is linked to cerebral dysfunction brought on by either type 1 (HSV-1) or type 2 (HSV-2) herpes simplex viruses, which is how this kiss caused Breelyn to sustain a brain injury.

“The infection got into her brain fluid […] and it attacked her brain,” the mother said. “When parents say not to kiss your children, this is one of the reasons for sure,” said the mother.

According to the mother, the virus caused damage to 60% of Breelyn’s left side of the brain. Many people react “in awe” after hearing about what happened, according to Breelyn’s stepfather.

He also said that many people are not aware that there are health hazards associated with kissing babies after birth and know individuals who have done so.

“It’s a shock and awe moment because [they realize] it could have happened,” he said. According to Breelyn’s mother, she is aware of the identity of the individual who kissed her daughter.

According to her, “they were very upset when they found out that they were the one that had done it,” and the person was also unaware of the dangers.

The mother went on to say that even though she had been upset with the individual for a long time, she had learnt to move on and let it go.

“I have actually forgiven the person,” she said. “It was an accident, they didn’t truly mean it.” Additionally, Breelyn’s stepfather advised parents to create boundaries and be cautious about who is around their kids.

Anyone exhibiting symptoms of a herpes infection or a cold sore should adhere to following recommendations, according the NHS website:

To prevent spreading the virus, avoid kissing any infants, wash your hands before handling them, wash your hands before nursing, and cover up any cold sores, lesions, or symptoms of a herpes infection on your body.

Despite Breelyn’s health issues, her mother admits that she enjoys a lot of the same things that other kids do, like Elvis Presley.

Breelyn is described as a “social butterfly” by her. She enjoys playing with her brother, with whom she has a wonderful bond.
