When John Ramsey discovered his daughter JonBenét’s body, he explained why he didn’t cry (Exclusive)

John Ramsey talks candidly about his feelings on December 26, 1996, the day he discovered his 6-year-old daughter JonBenét Ramsey’s death in the family’s Boulder, Colorado, basement.

“There were no tears when I found JonBenét,” Ramsey says in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“Well, I was upset when I received the call since I had lost my eldest daughter in a vehicle accident a few years before.

I was furious. I was surprised. I refrained from crying. You’re in shock right now, but I sobbed for years after that. I was furious. I was angry with God.

“At least for me,” he continues. Every couple of years, while I was seated alone on an airplane on a work trip, I would start crying. You’re in shock at the time, but it’s the weight of the loss.

When John’s wife Patsy noticed their daughter was gone earlier that morning, she alerted the police. During the call, Patsy—who has now passed away—frantically disclosed that she had found a terrifying ransom letter demanding $118,000 in exchange for JonBenét’s safe return.

It was discovered that JonBenét had been sexually abused and strangled at their house after John discovered her corpse.

A garrote was wrapped over the young beauty pageant queen’s neck, and duct tape was placed over her lips.
