A family is shocked to learn that replacing a car battery is more expensive than buying a brand-new electric vehicle.

A family soon regretted their decision to purchase an electric car for their 17-year-old daughter’s first automobile.

Avery Siwinski’s family paid $11,000 for an electric vehicle in 2022 in the hopes that it would be a dependable and environmentally responsible way for her to go to school on her own.

At first glance, the 2014 Ford Focus Electric car seemed to be a fantastic bargain. It was a few years old, but it had barely traveled 60,000 miles.

Avery loved driving her new automobile and was overjoyed with it. But only six months after she got behind the wheel, things began to simmer.

The main problem? The vehicle’s battery, which proved to be more than a little annoyance.

“I was ecstatic. “It was small and quiet, and it was fine at first,” Avery told 10 Tampa Bay, expressing her enthusiasm for the vehicle. At first, she was pleased with its performance.

Her excitement, however, was short-lived as the automobile “all of a sudden just stopped working.”

They found that the battery was dead after bringing the vehicle to the shop. Although changing a battery is often not too difficult, this circumstance was everything from typical.

Both the automobile type and its batteries were no longer produced by Ford. It would cost an incredible $14,000 to replace Avery’s automobile battery, not including installation fees.

Avery said, “I know that Ford stopped making the car but it’s frustrating that they stopped making the battery too, so it left hundreds of people without a car to use,” as she considered the difficulties she had with her cherished vehicle.

After her father passed away from cancer, her grandpa Ray stepped in to help and described the challenges.

“It turns out that this is a pretty common problem with this particular car,” he told the site. According to the Ford dealership, replacing the battery would only cost $14,000.

Although the high cost of replacement was probably caused by the Ford Focus Electric’s termination, the cost of electric vehicle batteries is generally much greater than that of conventional automobile batteries.

According to Digital Trends, upgrading an electric vehicle battery may cost up to $20,000, whereas standard car batteries often cost between $185 and $400.

Additionally, Avery’s grandpa sent a warning to prospective purchasers, stressing that Ford owners are not the only ones who face the issue of costly battery repairs. It is a widespread problem with different EV models.

He advised anybody thinking about buying an electric car, saying, “If you’re buying a new one, you have to realise there is no second hand market out there because manufacturers aren’t supporting the cars.”

Before purchasing an EV, the family advised people to carefully consider their alternatives, make sure they are aware of all possible expenses, and steer clear of similar issues.
