Sonny Bono was everything Cher ever needed, but it took the late singer-songwriter a bit longer to fall in love with his well-known ex-wife and colleague.
The singer of “If I Could Turn Back Time” shared her candid account of meeting her Sonny & Cher counterpart for the first time in a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
She recalled meeting Tony in a coffee shop in 1962 and said, “I thought it was like when Tony met Maria.” “I mean, everyone just vanished.”
Cher went on, “And it was just the two of us.” However, he disliked me. Love wasn’t immediately apparent. Something happened. I had never experienced that before.
However, she claims that he favored her buddy, even though the “Believe” singer was all about Bono from the beginning. “You know, you can come and stay with me,”
She recalls him saying. “And I said, ‘All right, you know.'” “No, no, I don’t find you particularly attractive,” he said. I was thus simultaneously thrilled and unhappy.
Cher famously met 27-year-old Sonny when she was 16 years old. The two ultimately married in 1964 and were well-known as a husband-and-wife combo.
Ten years later, in 1975, they completed their divorce, and the former lawmaker passed away at the age of 62 in a skiing accident in 1998.
Cher also denied that their age difference ever seemed “strange” in an interview with CBS. She described him as quite immature.
“I didn’t anticipate anything, so he got to be with me. I had no desire for money. You know, I didn’t consider anything. Additionally, all of these other ladies his age want for him to be an adult.
