Imane Khelif, the Olympic champion, has threatened to sue a French journalist for publishing an unconfirmed medical report that was leaked about her.
This summer, Khelif won gold in the women’s welterweight competition in Paris, but her attendance at the games had caused controversy.
Following her disqualification from the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships due to alleged failure of a gender eligibility test, the International Boxing Associations (IBA) took this action.
Khelif, on the other hand, maintained that she was a woman, and her father even produced her birth certificate, which stated as much.
Throughout the games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) defended her right to compete on numerous occasions, although the IBA’s legitimacy and test findings were also questioned.
Imane Khelif has vowed to sue a French journalist who released an unconfirmed leaked medical report about her, claiming that she possessed XY chromosomes and “male characteristics.”
Subsequently, Khelif denied allegations that she possesses XY chromosomes and’male characteristics’ in a report published in the French magazine Le Correspondant earlier this month, which have yet to be verified as legitimate.
Furthermore, the Algerian reiterated her defense of her stance and countered the allegations. She stated during her appearance on the Lo Stato delle Cose program with Massimo Giletti on Italian television:
“I was unaware of President Meloni’s statements; however, I observed that numerous politicians and presidents speak without any genuine authority.”
“We will appear in court to meet with the French journalist.” Carini withdrew from the fight and returned to the center of the arena, resulting in Khelif being declared the victor. The Italian boxer,
who had previously stated that she could only “adjust to the rules of the Olympics,” was observed weeping in the center of the ring after the bout’s premature conclusion. She also declined to clasp her opponent’s hand.
She subsequently stated, “It could have been the match of a lifetime, but I had to protect my life at that time.”
Carini then apologized for her behavior and expressed sympathy for Khelif; however, Meloni was among the numerous individuals who expressed their apprehensions regarding the Algerian’s presence in Paris.
However, when confronted with the matter, Khelif maintained that she does not harbor bitterness toward Carini for her actions.
She clarified, “I have no animosity toward Angela Carini.” ‘She is a teenage lady who is a combatant.
I have no animosity toward the individuals who exerted pressure on her to conduct in that manner; however, I am of the opinion that she did not act according to her own volition.
I am confident that the duress she experienced was the cause of her behavior. I wish to convey to Angela that she is a friend and will continue to be so.
I have accepted her contrition from the depths of my heart. “I wish her the best of luck; it is possible for individuals to make errors, but it is imperative that we learn from them.”
The reference to Giorgia Meloni, the president of Italy, is also in allusion to the additional controversy that engulfed Khelif in Paris.
Angela Carini, her Italian opponent in the second round, withdrew from the fight at 46 seconds due to nasal discomfort and reportedly asserting that she had never experienced a strike as severe.
The controversy surrounding Khelif was further exacerbated by her two punches to her opponent in the initial round during her fight with Carini.
It appeared that the Italian boxer’s jaw strap was removed by the strikes, prompting her to relocate to her corner.
