The small Missouri hamlet of Defiance was covered in dense smoke, sirens, and a tremendous explosion on the morning of January 19, 2024.
Sharon Oberla, a neighbor, remembered hearing “a boom, like an explosion,” emanating from the house.
One of the many neighbors who rushed to assist was Joe Brazil, a local citizen whose grandfather was covered in soot.
The fire was massive. I was unaware that the children were still inside the house when the trucks caught fire. When I spotted the grandparents, there was a lot of smoke.
