Despite being strong and powerful, with a shoulder height of up to 27.5 inches, beaucerons have an elegant gait and good balance.
They are known in French as Bas-Rouge, or “red stockings,” because of their eye-catching black coats and their eye-catching squirrel-red markings, which include red feet. A black-gray-tan combo is another option.
Their expressive countenance appeals to breed fans, and they have a long, well-defined head and confident, dark brown eyes.
These strong-willed dogs may quickly take over if they are not properly taught, therefore they are not the best choice for first-time dog owners.
Beaucerons are particularly excellent guardians for small children because, when properly taught and socialized, they are calming and trustworthy watchdogs.
