By expressing her choice to save her seat for a mother flying with her kid, a TikTok user and airline traveler has sparked an online discussion.
You can easily imagine the scenario as soon as you hear about this: a lady settling into her designated seat and beginning to relax for the journey.
Subsequently, a distressed mother seeking assistance approaches and requests a seat swap so she may sit with her kid.
But in this instance, the mother requested the lady to switch seats since she and her kid weren’t placed together for whatever reason.
Although the mother might have taken action sooner to guarantee that she and her kid were sat together, isn’t that a fair request?
However, what would happen if the youngster in issue wasn’t even a toddler or young child? The passenger, Surya Garg, requested that viewers share their thoughts on her TikTok video.
She clarified that if a family with little children approached her, she would normally be willing to give up her seat.
“I remember people giving up their seats for me and my brother when I was younger so we could be next to our parents, I get it,” she said.
“Tonight, I not only got asked to give up my window seat, so that I could sit in a middle seat, but the quote-unquote family that asked me to do this was a mother and her son.
Her son had to be at least like 16 or 17 years old,” Surya said, adding further information about the circumstances. “The whole time we were boarding, this 6’4″ guy was on the phone with his girlfriend.”
Surya chose to graciously decline the mother’s request since she was already seated and explained that she had paid more for her seat.
As Surya said, “This woman makes the nastiest face at me I’ve ever experienced, sits down next to me in the middle seat [and] her son goes back to the middle seat he was assigned to.” It seems that the mother didn’t take this answer well.
Surya claims that the mother then made the situation much more awkward by “muttering profanities” at her for the duration of the journey.
“Was I in the wrong here?” Surya questioned her audience. Many individuals immediately went into the comments section to share their opinions, and many of them supported Surya’s choice.
Support was shown by one viewer, who wrote: “You are not incorrect! I am a mother of young children. We often make plans and spend more money to sit together, yet…
@surya_garg for real like was I wrong #nyc #airplane #airplaneseats
“People need just simply purchase their tickets! Another viewer said, “I’m not giving up my window, which I paid for, for a middle seat.”
Some, on the other hand, expressed sympathy for the mother in this circumstance; one commenter said that they would give up their seat “100% of the time.”
“As a parent we only have a solid 18 years before they go out on there [sic] own […],” they said. “I understand, sometimes though people have non-visible disabilities like my adult son.
So in that case that would have been really helpful,” someone else said, raising the possibility that there were more issues at work. With more than 1.5 million views to date, Surya’s video is still generating a lot of discussion.
