A class action lawsuit has been filed against Netflix for its subpar streaming of the historic bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul on November 15.
Ronald “Blue” Denton filed a complaint in Florida, claiming that viewers had buffering, malfunctions, and trouble accessing the live feed.
Many spectators expressed their annoyance on X over Netflix’s technical difficulties throughout the bout, which saw Paul defeat the 58-year-old former world champion by unanimous decision.
As of this writing, Netflix has not responded to the complaint, although it has stated: “We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members.”
Even though we are aware that we can do better, we nevertheless view this event as a great success.
According to Denton, he and other viewers were “faced with legendary problems, including: no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues” when they turned into the program at about 8 p.m. ET.
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, even vented his annoyance at the technological difficulties to his 3.3 million followers on X.
These problems have led to a breach of contract lawsuit against Netflix, and Denton is requesting undisclosed damages.
However, Netflix boasted on X after the event that their buffering systems were having trouble meeting demand, praising the event’s magnitude.
The technological problems were not just there during the live feed; they were also noticeable during the on-site production.
During the live webcast, veteran presenter Kate Abdo had to apologize to both the audience and boxing icon Evander Holyfield since the former four-time world heavyweight champion couldn’t hear her questions due to technical issues.
Since his headphones had broken, Abdo had to turn to International Boxing Hall of Famer Lennox Lewis to help his erstwhile opponent, Holyfield.

Judges scored the bout 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favor of the 27-year-old Paul, who went on to win the contentious bout by unanimous decision.
